Optical Coherence Tomography of the Swollen Optic Nerve Head: Deformation of the Peripapillary Retinal Pigment Epithelium Layer in Papilledema

摘要

Optical coherence tomographic imaging of swollen optic discs caused by papilledema but not nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy causes deformation of the RPE/Bruch's membrane borders of the neural canal. Elevated pressure in the subarachnoid space of the optic canal causes biomechanical alteration of load-bearing structures of the optic nerve head.
